Per usual, Andrew Chen’s recent “How to break into Silicon Valley” shares good ideas like:

  • ask for intros
  • add value to conversation (want practice?)
  • have a “thing”
  • find your cult
  • write in public

While Austin remains a rounding error compared to the Bay Area in tech, somehow this town punches way above its weight in CPG. I’ll write more on related topics soon enough.

In the meantime, if you would like to break into Austin CPG:

  • heed the above in general (which is wise counsel in all weather for all domains) and
  • in particular also make sure to get yourself down to Cosmic Coffee off South Congress Avenue at 8:30 a.m. on the last Thursday of the month (see Meetup) and find Marc Nathan:
Marc makes me look like I never do anything or know anyone.

Marc hosts maybe the single most vibrant and effective meetup in Austin. Anyone hoping to advance any vertical or niche should pop in at least once to steal from him because this gathering excels in both quantity and quality. Thanks, Marc.
